Overview

This Contracts Manager position is to provide support to the management team in the business with the view of taking ownership of a variety of contracts and up to 5 x Site Managers / Forman to ensure the smooth running and profit of each contract.  You will have responsibility to ensure not only are the customers happy with the completion of the work, but that the quality is at what is required by the business and that the commercials & P&L of each contract is overseen and managed effectively too.  Each contract is different due to the bespoke nature of their work and clients, however will typically range in size from £50,000 to £500,000.  In addition to the general management of the contracts you may provide support to the Estimations and Tender opportunities that the business may have opportunity to quote and bid for.  This position provides the opportunity to take more of a senior role in the business over the next 12 months as the current Directors look to execute their proposed plans which will provide potential Directorship for the right individual going forward.  Having experience across the refurbishment, re-fit, decoration, external cladding or rendering is a real benefit as this is the majority of their work and would provide the ability to understand the contract requirements and estimating that little more in-depth.

Job Purpose Summary

Key Responsibilities and Duties

 

Manage projects effectively

  • Assume full responsibility for selected contracts & other works
  • Manage multiple contracts / projects to achieve critical deadlines
  • Adhere to contractual requirements & specifications
  • Follow industry-standard procedures for contract administration
  • Ensure supply chain is correctly and appropriately engaged to fulfil contractual requirements
  • Manage, coordinate and brief site-based personnel
  • Inspect and measure completed work as required
  • Achieve correct sign-off following procedure agreed with client
  • Maximise client satisfaction & levels of repeat business
  • Meet KPI targets set by the business
  • Minimise defects and rework

 

Maximise profitability of works

  • Achieve revenue & profitability targets set by the business
  • Uphold purchasing procedure
  • Identify opportunities for greater profits from procurement / execution method
  • Control & reduce costs wherever possible
  • Monitor & improve site worker productivity

 

Control project finances & administration

  • Oversee cost-value reconciliation, valuations, invoicing & project finances
  • Follow correct variations procedure and obtain client approval for all works
  • Keep organised and up to date financial information
  • Ensure projects remain within budget

 

Manage site resources and supply chain effectively

  • Ensure projects are adequately resourced to achieve all requirements
  • Assess competency and ensure vetting and approval processes are followed
  • Provide detailed instructions, information & support to site staff
  • Lead site teams including employed staff and third parties
  • Schedule and programme work for in-house staff
  • Organise materials and supply chain to meet critical deadlines
  • Motivate staff and provide feedback on performance
  • Contribute to company performance management process

 

Oversee health, safety and environmental standards

  • Assess & manage risk and controls across all activities
  • Brief workers regularly & maintain adequate records
  • Conduct site inductions and toolbox talks
  • Identify & implement improvements
  • Record and report near misses, incidents and accidents

 

Uphold, support and follow company procedures

  • Quality management procedures in relation to ISO 9001
  • Environmental management procedures in relation to ISO 14001
  • Ensure contracts comply with the company’s Management System procedures
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities
  • Record key events in line with procedures

 

Communicate effectively with all interested parties

  • Pro-actively & regularly
  • Issue updates on prospects & work in progress
  • Record significant verbal instructions

 

Identify & develop new business opportunities

  • Generate increased revenue from existing clients
  • Proactively seek new business & follow up on priced works

 

Support innovation

  • Share new insights with management team
  • Contribute ideas to improve systems & processes
  • Identify areas for investment & development of services
